Treating Brain and Spinal Cancer

Brain and Spinal cancer is a common term for a cancerous (malignant) tumor that starts the brain tissue and can travel to the spinal cord or the central nervous system (CNS). Treatment options for brain and spinal cancer depend on many factors, including the type and stage of the disease, but you can expect a combination of these types of treatments:

Local treatments

Local treatments refer to treatment that treats the tumor without affecting the rest of the body. Common local treatments of brain and spinal cancer are surgery to remove the tumor and radiation therapy. Depending on the type of brain and spinal cancer and how advanced it is, you might need other types of treatment as well, either before or after surgery, or sometimes both.

Systemic treatments

Systemic reach cancer cells almost anywhere in the body. They can be given by mouth or put directly into the bloodstream. Depending on the type of brain and spinal cancer, different types of treatment might be used, including:

  • Chemotherapy for Brain and SpinalCancer
  • Alternating Electric Field Therapy for Brain and Spinal Cancer
  • Targeted Therapy for Brain and Spinal Cancer
  • Radiation Therapy for Brain and SpinalCancer
