Treating Gynecological Cancer
Gynecological cancer is a common term for a cancerous (malignant) tumor that starts in in a woman’s reproductive organs. There are 5 main types of gynecological cancer:
- Cervical Cancer
- Ovarian Cancer
- Uterine Cancer
- Vaginal Cancer
- Vulvar Cancer
Treatment options for gynecological cancer depend on many factors, including the type and stage of the disease, but you can expect a combination of these types of treatments:
Local treatments
Local treatments refer to treatment that treats the tumor without affecting the rest of the body. Common local treatments of gynecological cancer are surgery to remove the tumor and radiation therapy. Depending on the type of gynecological cancer and how advanced it is, you might need other types of treatment as well, either before or after surgery, or sometimes both.
Systemic treatments
Systemic reach cancer cells almost anywhere in the body. They can be given by mouth or put directly into the bloodstream. Depending on the type of gynecological cancer, different types of treatment might be used, including:
