2017 Breakthroughs

Woman Up! Women’s Health Awareness
Following the success of Be A Man, came the release of Woman Up! Women’s Health Awareness video. The video takes a fun approach to bring awareness to serious cancerous diseases impacting women including: cervical cancer and the need for pap tests; breast cancer and the need for mammograms; colorectal cancer and prevention by colonoscopy; and lung cancer, including the ability to find this disease early through screening.

2nd Colorectal Cancer Pre-Screening
On March 18th we hosted our second Colorectal Cancer Pre-Screening event in partnership with our owner hospitals: Kadlec, Lourdes Health and Trios Health. This disease is the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. among men and women and is also very preventable. The community answered the call and we had five times the number over 2016 sign up for this event. We’re looking forward to our 3rd Colorectal Cancer Pre-Screening that will have happened on March 24th!

Survivorship Clinic
Our Survivorship Clinic, led by Lisa C.S. Rootvik, ARNP, was launched in the spring of 2017. Overcoming cancer and achieving survivorship is a milestone accomplishment. But many patients ask, “what’s next?” In our survivorship clinic, Lisa helps patients manage and identify side effects of treatment, teach them how to avoid, as well as detect, a recurrence of cancer and how to develop healthy habits for overall health and well-being.

NAPBC Accreditation
In late spring of 2017, we were granted a three-year accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.

Best Places to Work by Modern Healthcare
We were awarded the top 150 healthcare organizations to work for in the United States in 2017, the second time we have earned this award. The Best Places to Work in Healthcare recognition program, honors workplaces throughout the healthcare industry that empower their employees to provide patients and customers with the best possible care, products and services.

Naturopathic Clinic
Your Tri-Cities Cancer Center is proud to introduce our newly launched Naturopathic Clinic and our new Naturopathic Physician, Dr. Lindsey Josephson, adding yet another service to the extensive list for cancer patients within the region. Like any war, the war on cancer is best fought with allies. The value of nutrition, chaplaincy and others have long been known in cancer care. Oncology has another powerful ally in the form of Naturopathic Medicine.

Cancer Crushing Executives
On November 7th of this year, we launched a workplace wellness program called Cancer Crushing Executives to assist employers in the Mid-Columbia region to keep their employees healthy. Keeping employees healthy is paramount to the success of any employer, be they a private business, a government agency, or a non-profit. Promoting employee health via workplace wellness programs can prevent cancer and other diseases, as well as detect them early, when they are most treatable.
