Stress Management

An 11 year study of stage 1-3 breast cancer patients showed that stress management provided:

  • Longer overall survival
  • Less risk of cancer recurrence
  • Improved quality-of-life

In addition, other studies have shown stress management results in:

  • Reduced risk of death from the original cancer
  • Better resilience
  • Better blood sugar regulation
  • Improved immune function

Finding the best stress management technique is highly individual and requires experimentation.

Popular strategies include:

  • Yoga
  • Cancer specific support groups
  • Spiritual practices
  • Any exercise
  • Humor
  • Breathing exercises
  • Meditation
  • Pet therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Mindfulness
  • Journaling
  • Creative expressions
  • Supportive relationships
  • Prayer
  • Counseling
